Today we kick off a mini ‘Chart of The Day’ series on Instagram – the first of which explores the core demographics of the platform’s user base. To do this, we looked at users who claim to have “actively used or contributed to Instagram” in the past month. With demographic segmentation applied, the audience profile becomes clear. Firstly (and potentially worryingly for those with a budget to spend), people who work in ‘Advertising and Marketing’ are most likely to use Instagram, with 10.5% having done so in the past month. This is followed by 16-24 year olds, IT workers, singles and students. These detailed user profiles are essential for anyone thinking of investing in Instagram’s recently launched advertising product. As we always say, “know your audience”.
