Today we look at how 20 of the top social platforms fared between Q2 and Q4 last year, drawing on our January 2014 release of data to track changes in active user numbers.
The biggest winner was Instagram, growing its estimated audience from 73.72 million to 90.77 million – a rise of 23%. As we saw in yesterday’s Chart of the Day, Instagram also boasts one of the biggest shares of 16-24s among its user base.
Elsewhere, Reddit also experienced strong growth (+13%), with a range of other networks seeing small to modest increases (including LinkedIn, Google+, Pinterest, Tumblr and Twitter).
At the other end of the spectrum, Facebook recorded a slight drop in its estimated active user numbers – but at -3%, this is hardly the type of rapid desertion described in some recent reports. Despite small decreases in the second half of 2013, Facebook retains its position as the top global network.
