Hi there
Today we focus on the rise of messaging and social networking apps, drawing on figures from our January 2014 release of data.
Although Facebook remains in pole position and continues to add new users, the most striking growth here is for mobile messaging apps.
Between Q2 and Q4 2013, estimated audience numbers for WhatsApp and Kik Messenger increased by around a third each, Snapchat was up by more than 50% and, most dramatically, WeChat recorded a rise of more than 375% – with its estimated audience size (outside of China) now standing at 78.43 million.
Our Q4 data also shows increases for various networking activities via mobile, underlining the centrality of this platform within the future social networking landscape.
